The 110m multi-span replacement bridge in the Waihopai Valley Marlborough was a Design and Contract to replace Bridge 256, washed away in the July 2020 flood event.  As the head contractor, Egypt Ltd worked with CDT Consultants for the full bridge design.  6No 12m deep concrete reinforced piles with a 9m pile stem constructed by the piling sub-contractor Thelin Construction.  Egypt’s Site team undertook all bridge superstructure works from the pile caps through to the bridge beams.  Each of the seven spans has 4No precast double hollow core bridge beams and lands on a piled concrete abutment.

The 700m of road approach construction works to create a new alignment onto this bridge have been issued as a variation to the original contract.

The fendering project at Tarakohe Wharf was a part of the $5.0million upgrade Tasman District Council worked with Heron Construction.  Egypt Ltd were selected during the ECI phase of negotiations for the timber fendering works associated with this contract.   The works along a 171m stretch of Port Tarakohe frontage included dismantling the existing fendering and walkways.  Heron then drove timber piles for Egypt to align and install the new hardwood fendering, along with buffers, ladders at locations and hardwood wheel stops.  The project required skilled heavy construction timber works over water (tidal zone at Tarakohe Wharf fluctuates approx. 3-3.5m every tide movement).

This project demonstrates Egypt’s ability over tidal waterways, sensitive environmental areas and our ability to work with mass-timber structures.
